    Hello!
I’ve read some posts from your blog recently and found them helpful to me. I think, your book is helpful as well, so I’d like to get a copy of it.
I’m interested in deep understanding of Python and parts 3 & 5 sound tasteful.
I also like to read books about things I already know just to get another point of view and to be able to explain things better for people who ask me for a piece of advice. It’s hard to write books for many reasons and I always glad to learn another way to express thoughts.
And yes, I like the cover 🙂

  2. Hi. I’m starting with Python and I love your blog. Your writing style is really comprehensible, that is why I’d love to win the book to help me contribute to some open-source project!

  3. Hi, I want your book because , I’m a beginner in this language and I’m want to go deeper in my python knowledge 😀

  4. Hi,
I am starting my adventure with this program language and I really would like to commit to this language because its quite cool. I have done some small programs but I looks like a long way infront of me.

Most of my time I spent exploring blog entries (like your)/stackoverflow/python docs etc — online sources. Now I think its time to go to the next level and dive deeper in to python. The content of your book seems to have all what I need. Besides your blog is also a good source of hot-tips. From my perspective I need to have solid guide in pythonic world. I feel that I need to do my organic work.

    Br,
    Rake

  5. Because a friend of mine want it so badly that he could kill me if I don’t win a copy for him ( Sure it could be a good occasion to start learning python, but it’s quiet less important then my life… )

  6. Because anything you can do in any other language can be done with less effort in python.. so let the lazy people rule the world!

  7. Hello!

First of all I’d like to thank you for the great opportunity.
I’d really like the book as a gift to my boyfriend, because he loves Python and he is a reader of your blog. When he wants to learn something he really puts all his efforts into whatever it is he is doing.
I’ve never met someone so passionate about computer science. It’s the same with Python, and for this reason I believe no one deserves to win more than he does.
And last, but not least, he said “If I don’t get that book I’ll never sleep with you again”. Please, help me! (Just joking!)

  8. Hi there,
I would love to win this book because I like your writing style and examples and I teach beginners to code python and would love to have a comprehensible, easy to follow teaching guide (o’reilly is too deep for beginners) which tackles many different topics 🙂

  9. I am currently a stay at home dad trying to find a way to learn to code so that I can keep continue being a stay at home dad.

I’ve been using various online resources (Udemy, Reddit, Code Academy) to teach myself Python and it’s slow going as everything is slow going and, in the case of O’Reilly, written years ago.

I have knowledge of OOP, HTML/CSS but really want to focus on the back-end and Python is the most appealing. PHP is such a flooded market and Ruby seems to exist only because of its success with Rails.

Even if I don’t win this book I think I’ll buy it. I found out about this contest from Twitter and I’ve now added this as another resource as I’ve had a difficult time finding approachable Python stuff.

    Thanks!

Because it could be a good reason to learn python (This is not true, a frind of mine promised me beer if I win this book)

  11. I need to win because if I can’t, my brother in law will kill me or he will not fix my pc more.

  12. Andrea Ceravolo

i need to win this book badly!!! A friend of mine promise me a jar of honey if i will win this book for him !!! Please, my life is so bitter 🙁

  13. Thank you very much for that fabulous chance! I’d wanto to get this book to make my brother in law happy! He’s a great fan of this blog, and he really would love to have this book. He’s the biggest fan of computer science I’ve ever met, and I would really love to make him happy with this gift. And by the way, he’s also an engineer to be, and being an engineer, I would love to help a colleague to increase his knowledge thanks to your book.
    Thank you!

  14. I on your blog good things have read,
And got more Python in my head.
    Python I’ve only learned online,
And in library books quite fine.
But I myself do not one own,*
Though through your posts** in it I’ve grown.
Indeed your book I’d greatly like,
So if you send it, thank you, Mike. 🙂

    * except “wxPython in Action”, without which I couldn’t understand wxPython, but that’s not strictly a “Python” book
** on your blog, StackOverflow, the wxPython-users Google group, etc.

  15. Regarding “Python I’ve only learned online, And in library books”, that would include things downloaded and printed from online.

  16. Ali Hurriyetoglu

I use python to build a machine learning system which use a lot of data and various features such as linguistics, temporal, geographical, user networks etc. Since I have been working on this project full-time for 2 years, and will be working for the coming two years, I need any bit of information which can make my system better. It is a PhD project, the code will be open and I hope will improve what can people do with Python environment. Therefore I would be grateful if you could support me to achieve this target.

  17. Because I am just the little mouse that falls asleep every time someone talks about computer science.
I have casually found your book…I think it could really change mind about this undiscovered (for me) world.

  18. because I need to improve my rudimentary python skills as almost all modern geographic information systems (gis), a topic I am interested on, use python as there scripting language today.

  19. Because it’s too hard to explain my reasons here in a few lines….
Because it will be great to recive a new book about Python…
Because I am the mouse with the right hand standed asking something to you.

  20. Hello, thank you holding this contest. I’d like to win a free copy of the book because I know I would read it from start to finish. I work as a stenographer for the deaf/hard of hearing. My field is reliant on a handful of software companies that don’t genuinely compete. The software utilizes no intelligence in correcting mistakes, even though it seems clear to me that even simple Boolean logic could improve translation. This would result in better captioning results for the deaf and hard of hearing, who are presently at the mercy of a few companies that simply refuse to innovate. I want to use python to make software to compete with existing stenographic software. I would like to learn python using your book. Thanks for your consideration.

  21. I only know a small amount of Python and I want to incorporate it more into my day to day work as a sysadmin. Going over the book site and the target of the book seems good for this goal.

  22. As a 35 year old IT professional who’s done pretty much everything from DNS to VOIP, programming is the one thing I’ve only dabbled in.

Over the last month I’ve been working on a minor project with Python and I’m blown away at how easy it is to work with. I’ve got an app running on GoogleComputeEngine (for free, how cool is that?!) that receives text messages and responds based on the input that was received, as well as storing it all neatly into a SQLite database.

That being said, as I’m making the program more and more efficient (I’ve rewritten it three times now as my knowledge has grown) and adding new features I’m realizing I need to stop and take a breath and read something from cover to cover.

I’d like it if that book was yours. Hope to see it soon!

  23. Because I’m poor and cheap but generous enough to learn powerful Python. A book written by you could complete my fun and run programming life.

Oh actually the most important thing is I’m clueless and really need a fine book to start. I wish by winning your book, it could give me some motivation to learn well as a hobby and professionally. Your blogposts fit my style and I guess your book too.

  24. I need a Python101 to tackle with group of mouse at my office (My colleagues!! ) who always bite me with their python shortcut recipes !!!!!

  25. The reason why I would like to win a copy of this book is simple:
Reason 1: Winning a copy would be cheaper than buying a copy.
Reason 2: The reviews on this book have been great so I’d buy a copy if I don’t win a copy. See Reason 1 why I am not doing this today.
Reason 3: I liked the introduction and was hooked on the approach. If a book doesn’t grab my attention in the first two pages then I won’t purchase it. Again refer to Reason 1 as to why I’m not doing this today.
Reason 4: Do I really need another reason?

  26. There are multiple solutions to the same problem, many approaches to the same puzzle, many ways to climb the mountain and reach the summit. Between all programming languages, choosing python is like to be riding a big rocket pointed towards your goal.

  27. Because I’ve taught myself five computer languages in two weeks for work and I’m hopelessly confused. Also, that picture of a mouse-classroom is amazing.

  28. Dear Mike,

The cover picture of your book is very cute, and I can really find myself in that picture! I am the sleeping mouse in the bottom right. I am a medical biologist and never received training in programming. Since a year and a half though, I am trying to find a way to tell my computer what I want it to do; mainly by googling specific problems. Your book could help me to be more systematic, learn a proper programming language and advance medical research. Besides this, I would recommend your book to my colleagues, that are in similar situations.

    Best, Jake

  29. Hi Mike

I would to get a copy for my girlfriend. She has started a PhD in chemistry this year. Up til now she has used Excel for data analysis and is a bit jealous how easy I can produce good looking plots and analyse data with python and maplotlib. So she now wants to start learning to program to help her with the analysis of her programs.

    Best Max

  30. Vandana Bachani

I would like to win this book, coz I use python but I don’t completely know python? What its best for? Why does it exist (besides to make our lives easier)? Where can it win over traditional languages?
Aside, why are all the books named 101?

  31. I would like to win this book because,

    myList = [73, 108, 111, 118, 101, 80, 121, 116, 104, 111, 110]
    print ”.join(map(chr, myList))

The blog is a great place to come across some very interesting articles and I’m pretty sure that the book will help me improve my Python skills.
